Cabramatta Leagues gives local charities 62,000 reasons to smile!!
With all indoor areas of Clubs and pubs going 100% smoke-free in the last month, one would be forgiven for thinking that Clubs may have reduced the amount of money they spend on their local communities.
Not so at Cabramatta Leagues Club, with the local venue standing tall this month by donating more than sixty thousand dollars to local needy charities and organizations.
The donations, which coincide with the Community Development Support Expenditure Scheme, were given by the Club through the Fairfield LGA committee, together with individual requests handled directly by the Club.
Of the groups to benefit from Cabramatta Leagues Clubs generous donations, the Men of League Foundation received a hefty $15,000 to help provide a residential care and rehabilitation centre; a care facility to be established specifically for former rugby league players, coaches, referees, officials or administrators, from all levels of the game, who cannot care for themselves and will benefit from rehabilitation.
The Cabramatta Community Centre was another project that received great support from the local Club, with a donation of $13,700 to be used over two set projects. The first project aimed to purchase new kitchen cupboards and appliances for the Mt Pritchard Outside of School Hours Care Service, resourcing children attending Mt Pritchard Public School and the other community groups which utilize the room for different activities such as the Mt Pritchard Playgroup, Air League and church groups. The other project aimed to enhance the mental health well-being, promoting a positive life attitude and social involvement, fostering family harmony, minimizing elderly abuse and improving access to community services among the Chinese elderly people.
Similarly, The Spastic Centre were able to purchase equipment ( wheelchairs, shower/commode chairs) to help children after orthopaedic surgery to have a therapeutic form of mobility during the healing period with the Clubs $8,295 donation.
The Australian Red Cross’ Good Start Breakfast Club will be able to provide a healthy and nutritious breakfast in disadvantaged primary schools throughout Australia thanks to Cabramatta Leagues Clubs $14,500 donation. The aim is to address several community needs within the Fairfield area, including access to basic necessities for low income residents and access to community health projects that promote nutrition and healthy eating habits.
Other recipients include the The Cancer Council Metro West Region ($1,505), and Westmead Children’s Hospital ($9,000).
In the last year alone, Cabramatta Leagues Club has donated in excess of $500,000 to local charities, sporting clubs and organizations from Cabramatta and its surrounding communities.
According to Cabramatta Leagues Club General Manager, Larry Collins, this donation is just another example of the Club’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community.
“We are very much a community orientated club who get great satisfaction out of seeing the community benefit from our donations. These charitable organizations are doing a marvelous job within our community and we like to do whatever we can to help them,” said Larry.
“All donations are considered on their merit and individually assessed, and we (at Cabramatta Leagues) will endeavour to support the local community as best we can.
“It’s our community, and these groups support our members, our members children and families and their families. The more we give, the more the community gets in return,” he said
