A GRADE THROUGH TO PREMIERSHIP DECIDER

The A Grade capped off what was shaping as a very disappointing fathers day for the Cabramatta Club with a brilliant 26-10 victory over Seven Hills at New Era Stadium. After hearing that the Jim Beam Cup had been bundled out of the semi finals, and then seeing the A Reserve Grade pumelled by Guildford, the A Grade defied the odds and did the Club proud in joining the 15/1, 17/1 and C/1 in Grandfinal's this weekend. Coach Brett Burns was delighted with his sides efforts and is quietly confident the team can upset Wentworthville in the premiership decider - a side they are yet to beat this season.

The schedule for Grandfinals this weekend is as follows...
Saturday, September 13th
MARCONI STADIUM
2:30pm Under 15/1 vs Fairfield United
5:30pm under 17/1 vs Wentworthville

Sunday, September 14th
MARCONI STADIUM
11:45am C/1's vs Wentworthville
3:00pm A Grade vs Wentworthville

9/1, 9/3, 11/1, 12/1, 13/1 and 15/2 WIN GRANDFINALS

Saturday, September 6th, 2008 will long be remembered as a great day for the Cabramatta Club, after 9 Junior sides competed in their respective grandfinals with the Under 9/1, 9/3, 11/1, 12/1, 13/1 and 15/2 all tasting Premiership Glory. The 9/1's turned in a gallant defensive effort to hold off a fast finishing Wentworthville with an 18-12 victory, while the 9/3's romped home 30-0 over Parra City Titans in the Division 2 premiership. It was a nail biter in the Under 11/1's will Cabra prevailing 16-12 over Hills, while the 12/1's were all class in disposing of Wentworthville 24-10. The Under 13/1 hung on to beat a fast finishing Mounties 24-14, while the Under 15/2 confirmed their dominance throughout the season with an impressive 22-8 victory. Unfortunately Mounties were too big and too strong in the 10/1's going down 10-30, while the 13/2's fell just short in their grandfinal against Merrylands, and the 14/1's went down 4-8 to CVD Cobras in a nailbiter. Regardless of the result, the Club is extremely proud of all of our sides efforts.

PARRAMATTA EELS HAROLD MATTHEWS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Chris Uligia has continued the tradition of Cabramatta juniors doing well in the Parra rep teams. Chris was recently named the Parramatta Harold Matthews Player of the year. Chris, who has played for Cabramatta from mini football is a talented back playing a lot of his time at fullback. Well done Chris, you are a credit to yourself, your family and the Cabramatta Club.

PRETTY IN PINK - PRETTY IN PERFORMANCE

The tone was set for a great day, five games of football, a jumping castle and face painter for the kids, plenty of raffles, prizes and giveaways, and an Under 8's exhibition all in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The Parramatta Junior League and rival Clubs had thrown their support behind the day, ensuring both C Grades, the Reserve grade and the A Grade were all scheduled to play at home on the day, and all 4 sides wore pink socks to mark the occasion.

The weather was kind early on with the C/2 winning on forfeit, the C/1 prevailing in a tight one 18-6 over Greystanes, and the Reserve Grade led by inspiring prospect Nathan DeGroot thumping an understrength Mounties 62-0. As the crowd grew, the storm clouds got darker and Brett Burns' A Grade seemed a little thunderstruck as they found themselves trailing 0-14 early in their clash with Mounties, before a fabulous 50 minutes of football saw them all but end Mounties finals hopes with a gutsy 24-14 victory. Led from the front by Players Player Chris Weaver and try scoring machine Matt Hamilton, the Blues showed no signs of buckling and claimed a very impressive victory.

By the kick off to the Jim Beam Cup a large crowd was on hand, but had to scamper for cover as the rain came, and 4 minutes into the match with Cabramatta leading 4-0, the Referee put a halt to the game as the torrential rain, thunder and lightning made its presence felt. By the time the game restarted, both sides were resigned to the fact that the field was now a mudbath and the side that controlled the ball the best would win. To Cabramatta's credit, a great defensive display and good ball control considering the atrocious conditions contrinuted to a great 42-10 win against Wentworthville.

Sione Fukafuka and Michael Leifi will fly the flag for Cabramatta as they mix it with some of the best Pacific Island kids in the state. The inaugural camp will form part of the 2008 talent identification process for future domestic and international development programs.

GAGAN MAKES AUSTRALIAN U15 MERIT SQUAD

Under 15/1's rising superstar Jacob Gagan was last week named in the Australian U15 Merit Squad, capping off a remarkable year for Cabramatta, NSWCHS and NSW U/16. Well done Jacob.

EELS STARS RETURN HOME

Parramatta Eels and New Zealand superstar Krisnan Inu, together with Eels first grade stars Matt & Kris Keating will return home to where it all began for the trio as they put the Cabramatta Junior Rugby League Club sides through their paces at New Era Stadium on Thursday, 3rd of July from 5pm.

The players, all of which are Cabramatta Juniors and are actively involved in the Club, are hoping to show the young juniors that they too were juniors of Cabramatta, and through hard work and perseverance, it is achievable to reach their dreams of one day playing in the NRL.

Football Club President Paul Metcalfe applauded the players on the initiative, saying they are always happy to give their time and assist the Club, and it is great that they want to be involved and give back to the juniors.
“These three haven’t forgotten their roots, they are always happy to come and help out and this is just another example of what terrific young men they have become,” he said. “The kids look up to these guys and aspire to be like them, so we will have a lot of happy teams after Thursday.”

Krisnan Inu, Matt Keating and Kris Keating have also committed to attending the Clubs Sports Luncheon on Friday July 11th as guest speakers, joining the likes of Parramatta and St George great Steve Edge, Australian Olympic Basketball star Natalie Porter and hilariously funny comedian Tahir as part of an all star cast on the day. Limited Tickets are available from the Club for $65 on 9727 8788.

GREAT EFFORT BY CABRA JUNIORS

Aaron Woodham, Isaac Brown, Tom Amone and Liam Collenette, from the Under 12-1s represented Sydney South West U12s Primary School at the NSW PSSA State Championships at Inverell in June. The team finished fourth and were the only ones to defeat the winners, Sydney North, in the earlier pool games. The Cabra boys played the games always trying their best. Aaron and Liam were rewarded with spots in NSW PSSA U12s State Development Squad of 34 players from all around the state. They will go into camp first week of the holidays at Narrabeen being involved in specialist coaching, trial games and various activities. At the end of the camp, a 17 man State team will be announced. We wish Aaron and Liam all the best in their endeavours. Well done to all the Cabra boys on their efforts.
